Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce

In the presence of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Md. Shahriar Alam, in Sao Paulo, the heart of Brazil's economy, two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed between Sao Paulo Chamber of Commerce, FBCCI and Brazil-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce to promote bilateral trade.

FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin and Brazil-Bangladesh Chamber President Md Shahriar Ahmed signed the MoUs on behalf of their respective organizations. Meanwhile, the International Coordinator of the Sao Paulo Chamber, Ricardo Currie, signed both memorandums.

Through this memorandum of understanding, the representative organizations have agreed to provide support in terms of exchange of information related to finance and trade, trade development, establishment of effective communication between businessmen and entrepreneurs of both countries in the expansion of bilateral business and trade.

Ricardo pointed out that Bangladesh has competitive potential as a hub for Brazil's far-reaching commercial plans in Asia. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs mentioned the signing of two memorandums of understanding with the 129-year-old and influential Chamber of Brazil as a special strategic beginning of Bangladesh's market expansion in the South American Marcosur region.

FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin pointed out that without direct involvement of the governments and business organizations of the two countries, bilateral trade between Brazil and Bangladesh has reached about 2 billion US dollars. He mentioned Brazil as a potential source of diversification in both import and export of Bangladesh after its transition as a developing country.

During the presentation of two short power points by Sao Paulo Chamber of Commerce and FBCCI, the market expansion potential of Bangladesh pharmaceutical and garment industry in Brazil was highlighted. Meanwhile, Brazilian investment and cooperation in cotton and soybean and agricultural and halal food processing is expected from Brazil in Bangladesh.

The sincerity and special interest of the Brazilian government and business representatives in this high-level visit by the Foreign Office was noticeable. The signing by the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Visa Exemption Agreement for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders indicates the special importance Brazil attaches to Bangladesh in its diplomatic and economic spheres. An agreement and a memorandum of understanding at the government level and three memorandums of understanding at the business level were signed with Brazil during the visit of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
