Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has advised consumers to be
affordable in purchasing daily necessities. He says food prices could rise
further if the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Crisis may
arise in future. For this, everyone should be frugal and careful.
In a dialogue organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat
Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Secretariat last Monday (May 16, 2022), Commerce
Minister Tipu Munshi said many were saying that the situation in Bangladesh
would be similar to that in Sri Lanka. It is called for political purposes.
Bangladesh's economic crisis will never be like Sri Lanka's. We lent them.
BSRF President Tapan Biswas and General Secretary Masudul
Haque were present in the dialogue among others.
Who controls the market, government or businessmen?
Responding to a question from a journalist, the commerce minister said the
government does not control the market. Traders do not control. The government
monitors the supply of goods in the market.
In the dialogue, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said the
government was looking into ways to import wheat from five more countries after
India announced a halt to wheat exports. "We have talked to the Canadian
high commissioner about wheat imports," he said. Besides, India as a
neighboring country will give us wheat. There is no reason to worry about
wheat. '
The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has already begun
to affect food production. Everyone must be careful for this. Asked what it
means to advise consumers to be affordable, the Commerce Minister said the war
is affecting everyone; Consumers, government, journalists, businessmen or
ministers — everyone has to think equally. This war is not fair, its effect is
to increase the ship's fare. However, due to cost constraints, foreign trips of
government officials have been stopped.
"Anyone who buys 5 liters or 10 liters of oil has to
worry," he said. We all know that when a crisis is created, the budget has
to be cut somewhere. If the war is long term, the problem will come. We have to
be affordable from where we are. Be careful.
Asked why the distribution of edible oil and other products
through TCB has been suspended since Monday, Tipu Munshi said, "The Prime
Minister has told us that these are being given to the people of the city, not
to the people of the villages." You take some time. '
