The export of fish was stopped for 27 days due to the snatching of fish exported to Tripura, India through Akhaura land port of Brahmanbaria. However, fish export has resumed through the port on Thursday (August 6, 2020) morning.
Mohammad Forkan Ahmed Khalifa, general secretary of the Akhaura Land Port C&F Agents Association, said traders from the two countries stopped exporting fish after the incident. After the issue was resolved through a video conference between Tripura local MLA Suranjit Dutt and Bangladesh's Akhaura municipality mayor Takzil Khalifa Kajal, fish exports resumed after a 27-day hiatus.
On July 9, a truck carrying fish exported to the Indian state of Tripura via the Akhaura land port reached the Ramnagar area of Agartala on its way to Silchar and was snatched by a group of youths belonging to the ruling party's youth wing. The truck contained 6,350 kg of fish in 127 cartons. The price is 15 thousand 875 dollars. After the snatching incident, Indian importers and exporters stopped importing fish in consultation with Bangladeshi traders.
