File Photo[/caption] SZ Kabir: The launch of product jetty and service jetty has been inaugurated by lighter ships at Payra port in Kalapara in Patuakhali district of Bangladesh. The official launch of the service jetty began on October 15, 2019, 11 am and the lifting of goods from lighter ships began.

Photo: Collected[/caption] Payra port authority sources said the service jetty is 80 feet long and 24 meters wide. It was built at a cost of Tk 21 crore. A mobile harbor crane with a capacity of lifting 64 tons at a cost of Tk 29 crore has been set up to lift the product on the jetty from lighter vessels. The crane is made of Germany. Also added to the jetty is a mobile hydraulic crane with a capacity of 30 tons and a forklift of 25 tons capacity. After the inauguration of the service jetty, the operational activities of the product deployment ware started using a newly added crane. Photo: Collected[/caption] SM Imtiaz Islam said that the removal of containers from the ship, including loading and unloading of goods through a 64 tons lifting mobile harbor crane connected to the service jetty, will be completed in a simpler and quicker manner, as the cargo can be uploaded quickly. Continuous electricity access has been ensured at this jetty. In addition, three types of operation can be done by hook, grub and solider. He added that as the port activities started, the infrastructure development, industrialization and trade of the southern regions including Patuakhali, Barisal will be expedited through import and export of goods. Currently coal terminal, first terminal project, multipurpose terminal construction work is underway in the port area. In order to avoid any problems as the ship arrives at this port, excavations are underway at the Rabanabad Channel through the Belgium-based mining company Jan de Nal.

File Photo[/caption] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the deep sea port on 19 November, 2013. This project has been included in the first priority project. The overall development program is being implemented by dividing it into 19 components. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the operational activities on August 13, 2016 through a limited release of goods from commercial ships on lighter ships at the port of Payra in a limited range.
