Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, President of FBCCI, a top organization of businessmen and industrialists, has urged the Euro-Asian country Turkey to sign two agreements with Bangladesh.
He requested for final discussion on signing of preferential trade agreement or PTA and consideration of free trade agreement or FTA signature. Besides, the FBCCI president expressed interest in increasing bilateral trade and investment. In response, Turkish Ambassador to Dhaka Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan expressed interest in investing in 11 sectors in Bangladesh on the basis of joint ventures. The ambassador said Turkish businessmen are interested in investing enough in Bangladesh.
Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, the newly elected president of the FBCCI and Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, the Turkish ambassador made the remarks in a courtesy call at the Federation Building in Motijheel on Wednesday (June 2, 2021). Also present on the occasion were FBCCI Senior Vice President Mr. Mostafa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Vice President Mr. M.A. Momen, Mr. Amin Helali, Mr. Habib Ullah Don, Mr. Salauddin Alamgir, Mr. M. A. Razzak Khan, Director Mr. Abu Nasser, Mr. Bazlur Rahman and others.
After the courtesy call, FBCCI President Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin told reporters that friendly relations between Turkey and Bangladesh have continued and will continue in the future. Both Turkey and Bangladesh have potential products that are in good demand in both countries. Using comparative advantage can facilitate import-export growth and trade between the two countries.
He also praised Turkey's growing trade with various countries and the efficiency of their authorities. He requested the Turkish Ambassador to invest in special economic zones where Bangladesh could offer a prosperous economic zone for Turkish investors. Turkey can invest in tourism and infrastructural development in Bangladesh by sharing its skills in the construction and tourism sectors.
Turkish Ambassador Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan said tariffs could be discussed at a meeting of the Turkey-Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission in the future. Turkish businessmen are also interested in investing in Bangladesh. Investments based on joint ventures can be one of the most promising sectors in Bangladesh such as construction, food processing technology and equipment, pharmaceuticals, medical tourism, medical equipment, ICT, software development, startup development, leather, jute. Initiatives can be taken to expand trade and commerce between the two countries by organizing business-to-business meetings with the support of the Turkish-Bangladesh Business Council by identifying potential sectors and traders through dialogue. If the situation improves, both sides suggest exchanging visits between Bangladesh and Turkey.
