The World Bank wants to help Bangladesh in the livestock sector

World Bank Country Director Mercy Myang Tembon said Bangladesh is moving fast. Many countries of the world are learning by watching Bangladesh.

The World Bank has expressed interest in providing continued assistance in the development of the livestock sector in Bangladesh. A delegation led by World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh Mercy Myang Tembon expressed interest in a meeting with Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sha M Rezaul Karim at the Secretariat on Wednesday (March 02, 2022).

Highlighting the progress of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project, the Fisheries and Livestock Minister told the meeting that the work on the Livestock and Dairy Development Project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the World Bank, is progressing faster than in the past. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is regularly monitoring the activities of the project.

Especially the agricultural sector of this country has come a long way. However, there is room for further progress in this sector, especially in the livestock sector. For this it is necessary to speed up the implementation of livestock and dairy development projects.

Mentioning the recent changes in the livestock sector of Bangladesh, including poultry and dairy, Minister Sha M Rezaul Karim said that the livestock and dairy development projects in the livestock sector would be an example for other countries.


The minister said that under the project, cash incentives of around Tk 700 crore have been given to the farmers affected by the Corona. 4,200 livestock service providers have been selected in the project area, milk cream separator machines have been distributed among 1,500 farms, 3,000 producer groups have been formed involving more than 90,000 farms. Under this, 360 mobile factory clinics have been procured for delivering veterinary services to the doorsteps of farms out of which 61 have been distributed recently.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Taufiqul Arif and Subol Bose Moni, Director General of the Department of Livestock. Manzoor Mohammad Shahzada, Martin Van Newkop, Global Director of Agriculture and Food Global Practice at the World Bank, Christian Berger, Senior Agriculture Economist at the World Bank, Md. Golam Rabbani was present in the meeting.
