Malaysia has expressed interest in diversifying palm oil exports to Bangladesh and investing in palm oil value-added industries. On November 2, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Mr. Mohammad Golam Sarwar and Malaysian Minister for Plantation, Industries and Commodities Datuk Hazah Juraida Kamaruddin paid a courtesy call on Putrajaya. During the meeting, the Malaysian minister expressed her interest.
This information was given in a press release signed by Councilor (Political) Mr. Mohammad Rajibul Hasan from the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Wednesday (November 3, 2021).
Minister Hazah Juraida added that Malaysia gratefully remembers the contribution of Bangladeshi workers in the development of the Palmoil sector. She said Malaysia is interested in expanding the palm oil market in Asian countries. To this end, she emphasized on increasing the production of palm oil and its productivity by providing uninterrupted labor, solving the housing problem and increasing the facilities for the workers.
High Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Golam Sarwar briefed the Malaysian Minister on the economic and social progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is known as a role model of development in the world today. The government is setting up a total of 100 economic zones and 28 high-tech parks in the country to attract foreign investors. He told the Malaysian minister that Malaysian investors could benefit by investing in these economic zones and high-tech parks. He added that Malaysia could follow the example of South Korea and Japan by allocating a special economic zone to allow Malaysian investors to invest in Bangladesh.
Malaysia's Minister for Plantation, Industries and Commodities Datuk Hazah Juraida Kamaruddin assured the High Commissioner that she would discuss the matter with the concerned.
