The country has already formulated a "Good Agricultural Practice Policy (GAP)", the implementation of which has begun. Under this policy, there will be management in the category of Best Agricultural Practice, certification, testing, monitoring, reporting etc. This will ensure traceability. Apart from this, work is being done to improve the certification system to increase the export of fruits and vegetables abroad, to set up an accredited lab in Purbachal, to modernize the packaging and processing center in Shampur, to set up a vacuum heat treatment plant with washing facilities under various projects. The Minister of Agriculture inaugurated the two-day regional training workshop on "Fruit and Vegetable Certification Process and GAP Identification" organized by SAARC Agriculture Center (SAC) online in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI) from the office room of the Ministry on Monday (May 24, 2021). He said this in his guest speech. Dr. Razzak said the SAARC countries have made commendable progress in food production. However, people's low access to nutritious food still continues to be a cause for concern. In many cases, malnutrition is still rampant. In this situation, fruits and vegetables can be most helpful in meeting the nutritional needs. The joint efforts of SAARC countries, exchange of knowledge and cooperation on "Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)" will help in the successful implementation of the GAP policy and the removal of trade barriers in SAARC countries.
