World Pasta Day 2025: A Global Gathering in Istanbul with the Theme "From Tradition to Future"

World Pasta Day 2025: A Global Gathering in Istanbul with the Theme "From Tradition to Future"

Pasta, one of the world's most beloved and widely consumed foods, is back in the spotlight this year with a special event to be held in Turkey. World Pasta Day, held annually on 25 October in different countries around the world, will take place in Istanbul from 24 to 26 October 2025, hosted by the Turkish Pasta Manufacturers Association (TMSD) and the Pasta Producers and Manufacturers Association (MÜSAD). The event, themed ‘From Tradition to the Future,’ aims to bring together both the bounty of the past and the innovative vision of the future at the same table.

This year's theme highlights the journey of durum wheat, which began thousands of years ago in Anatolia, and Turkey's important role in this journey. Durum wheat, which sprouted in the Karacadağ region approximately 10,000 years ago, forms the basis of a universal food that graces tables around the world today.

The story of World Pasta Day is also closely linked to Turkey. The idea for the event was first proposed by the Turkish delegation at the World Pasta Manufacturers meeting held in Rome in 1995. In 1997, a decision was made in the United States to designate 25 October as ‘World Pasta Day,’ and the first celebration took place in Naples, Italy, in 1998.

Since then, the event has been celebrated every year in a different country, coordinated by the International Pasta Organisation (IPO). Turkey is preparing to host the event for the third time in 2025, following the 2008 and 2013 events.

The aim of the event is not only to celebrate pasta but also to emphasise that it is a sustainable, nutritious, and cross-cultural product. The Scientific Consensus Statement, supported by scientists, highlights that pasta is a fundamental component of a healthy diet and plays an important role in correcting misconceptions about carbohydrates.

The gathering in Istanbul will bring together pasta associations, pasta line manufacturers, scientists, chefs, gastronomy experts, and media representatives from 15 different countries. Participants will have the opportunity to:

- discover the latest pasta trends,

- taste special recipes from world-renowned chefs,

- attend panels featuring leading experts in the field,

- and build a strong international network.

World Pasta Day 2025 offers an important platform not only for sharing industry knowledge but also for anyone wishing to exchange ideas around culture, flavour, and sustainability.

Hosted by Turkey for the third time, this global event will highlight the historical origins of pasta and deliver a powerful message about the future vision of nutrition. For three days, Istanbul will become the heart of the global pasta industry, a hub where cultures and flavours converge.
