Work should be done to bring uncultivated land under cultivation: Agriculture Adviser

Agriculture Adviser Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that work should be done to bring the uncultivated land under cultivation to meet the food needs of the growing population of the country. Government will be farmer friendly only when farmers get proper seeds and fertilizers, and get fair prices for their produce.

He said these things while visiting the Directorate of Agricultural Extension at Farmgate in the capital today (September 25, 2024) afternoon while exchanging views with the officials.

The adviser said that the Ministry of Agriculture has taken necessary steps to ensure that there is no shortage of fertilizers.

He said, "The main achievement of the progress of agriculture is the farmers. Care should be taken to ensure that the farmers do not suffer and get fair prices. The Ministry is taking a strict stand to prevent corruption in the agriculture sector. Necessary steps have been taken in this regard.

Supply of fertilizers and seeds, bringing fallow land under cultivation, diversification of crops, increasing cultivation of fruits and increasing export of seasonal fruits, reducing the use of urea fertilizers, cultivating crops suitable for post-flood land, bringing dry areas under irrigation system to make the agriculture sector more efficient and farmer-friendly. The advisor shed light on the matter.

Later, the adviser visited various wings of the Department of Agricultural Extension. Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. Mohammad Emdad Ullah, Additional Secretary Dr. Malay Chowdhury, and Director General of the Directorate of Agricultural Extension (ongoing duty). Tajul Islam Patwari was present on the occasion.
