The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), a government marketing agency, will soon start selling onions at affordable prices through truck sales in the open market to keep the supply and price of onions normal under the Corona situation and will continue till new onions come to the market.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Task Force Committee of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 6, 2020). Task Force Committee President and Secretary of Commerce Dr. Md. Zafar Uddin, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Exports) Obaidul Azam, Additional Secretary (Import) Md. Hafizur Rahman, Director General of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department Bablu Kumar Saha, TCB Chairman Brigadier General Md. Ariful Hasan and other members of the committee were present.

There is no compelling reason for onion crisis or price rise. However, it was decided that strict action would be taken as per the law if anyone tried to increase the price of onion by creating illegal stockpiling or artificial crisis.
The meeting decided to send a letter to the National Board of Revenue and the Ministry of Agriculture regarding IP and quarantine for rescheduling of onion imports.
The meeting was informed that the monitoring team of the Ministry of Commerce and the Department of National Consumer Protection have further intensified market monitoring. Besides, it was decided to intensify market monitoring across the country by discussing in detail the stock, supply and price situation of other essential commodities.
