Young entrepreneur Sekander Ali Babu has achieved success by cultivating ginger in bags in Phulbari Upazila village of the district. Seeing his success in cultivating ginger on fallow land has inspired many.
On Sunday (10 November 2024) afternoon, I spoke with Md Sekendar Ali (27), a young entrepreneur from Katabari village of Fulbari Upazila, Dinajpur. He said that he saw a video of ginger cultivation in sacks on YouTube in the middle of last July. Later, he took the initiative to cultivate ginger in this way. After that, on the wasteland, ash, and organic manure mixed with sand are prepared and kept in sacks. He is currently cultivating ginger in 3000 sacks with an investment of about two lakh rupees in those sacks, which can be sold for Tk 4 to 5 lakh. Ginger has started to mature in just three months. Due to regular maintenance, the ginger plants planted in sacks are pressed at the base and the ginger is seen floating. His family and neighbors are happy with Babu's success in using modern methods.
Sekander Ali Babu, a young agricultural entrepreneur, said that in this method, success can be achieved in ginger cultivation with limited cost and little labor cost. About 2.5 to 3 kg of ginger is available in each bag. The use of fertilizers or pesticides has to be reduced. He said I think we can cultivate ginger in this way in the fallow areas of houses for our own needs. In this, we can meet our own needs and gain commercially. People are coming from different areas of the upazila to see my ginger cultivation. I suggest that you be interested.
I was given all kinds of advice from the Phulbari Upazila Agriculture Office of the district. He said, that on November 8, the Deputy Director of Dinajpur Agricultural Extension Department, Md. Nuruzzaman Mia Fulbari, along with the Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer, inspected ginger cultivation in Am Basta. He was impressed by my success in ginger cultivation with this method and encouraged me. I initially started ginger cultivation on their advice. If it is profitable, there are plans to cultivate ginger on a larger scale in the future.
Milon master of Tentulia village of the municipal area who came to see Sikander Ali Babu's ginger cultivation said, I have seen ginger cultivation on YouTube. I have come to Babu Bhair's ginger garden to see what it is like in reality. It was very nice to see. I started cultivating such ginger in my fallow place. Razman Ali of Swajanpukur village, Kuddus Ali of Gauripara village, and many others said this.
Phulbari Upazila Agriculture Officer Mocha Rumman Akhtar said that ginger can be cultivated in sacks in a small area. Moreover, due to the advantages of low cost and less effort, ginger cultivation has started in different unions of Phulbari upazila. When our fellow farmers seek advice on ginger cultivation in sacks, we assist and advise them in various ways. Hopefully, ginger will be cultivated in all the houses from the village to the city in this way.
