Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan said that it is possible to buy oil at a lower price of Tk 3.7 billion than before due to the opening of the tender.
He said this at a seminar organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday (December 7, 2024).
Fauzul Kabir said, "We had competition banished from here. There was no competition. You know so-and-so, you built a power plant. You know so-and-so, he took over the monopoly of Bhola Gas. So we opened it up."
He said, "We have repealed the black law of 2010, through which this was done. From now on, there will be no procurement in the power and fuel sectors without open competition, and we have started getting its benefits right away."
The energy advisor said, "Even though there is no refinery in the case of oil import, big businessmen have been given the opportunity to participate in the tender." Previously, four or five people participated, but last time we got 12. And by opening the tender, we got 35 percent less price. We were able to save Tk 370 crore.
He also said that LNG import has also been opened up.
