As a result of maritime economy or blue economy, the country
will move further towards the developed world. A separate ministry or
department should be formed to take the maritime economy forward. This will
ensure proper use and maintenance of the country's marine environment or marine
resources.
On the initiative of the General Economics Department of the
Planning Commission, a dialogue titled 'Sunil Economy: The Possibility of
Institutionalization in National Progress' was held at the Bangabandhu
International Conference Center in the capital on Saturday. The negotiators
said these things there. It was presided over by Planning Secretary Pradeep
Ranjan Chakraborty.
Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmed Kaikaus took
part in the dialogue. Speaking as the chief guest, he said that the steps taken
by the government for the development of maritime economy or sunil economy will
be reflected step by step. Previously, due to lack of coordination, the desired
success did not come in many works. However, it is possible to overcome all
obstacles by working in a planned manner.
The maritime economy will also play a role in boosting the
country's GDP, the negotiators said. Juana Aziz, chief SDG-coordinator for the
Prime Minister's Office, said: "The blue economy will increase the GDP of
the country by 3 percent. By doing this we will move further towards the
developed world. Various effective measures are being taken to implement Blue
Economy.
The keynote address was delivered by Md. Kauser Ahmed,
Member (Secretary), General Economics Department, Planning Commission. Aminul
Arefin, Project Manager, UNDP's Social Security Policy Support Program, also
presented an article on 'Sunil's Economy and Social Security in Bangladesh'.
Officials from various government ministries and armed
forces, port authorities and research institutes, professors and researchers
from different universities, officials from various private and international
organizations were present on the occasion.
The negotiators said that till now various activities of
maritime economy have been conducted fragmentally under different ministries of
Bangladesh government. The dialogue explains and analyzes how the potential of
maritime economy in Bangladesh can be institutionalized in national progress.
The speakers said that the Bangladesh Planning Commission could play an
important role in sustainable growth and development by conducting various
activities related to maritime economy centrally.
