Price of rice bought from India has dropped to Tk. 34 per kg

[caption id="attachment_6118" align="aligncenter" width="1014"]Price of rice bought from India has dropped to Tk. 34 per kg File Photo[/caption] The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved a proposal to import another 50,000 tonnes of boiled rice from Birbhum, India. The proposal was approved at a meeting of the procurement committee chaired by Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal online on Wednesday (December 30, 2020). After the meeting, Additional Secretary to the Cabinet Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal told reporters. The procurement committee approved three separate proposals to import a total of 1.5 lakh tonnes of rice at 50,000 tonnes each this month. The average price is 34 Tk. per kg. On December 2, the procurement committee approved a proposal to import 50,000 tonnes of non-basmati rice from Birbhum, India and on December 9, another 50,000 tonnes from Mumbai, India. Additional Secretary Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal told reporters that the price of 50,000 tonnes of boiled rice was estimated at Tk 168 crore 63 lakh. As in the previous section, MSPK Agri Link Pvt. Ltd., a company based in Birbhum, has got the job again. The price of rice per ton is 397.71 US dollars. The price of rice per kg in Bangladeshi is Tk. 33.72 without VAT. According to the Ministry of Food, government rice stocks are declining rapidly. Last Tuesday, there were 5 lakh 36 thousand tons of rice in the government warehouse. But at the same time last year it was 10 lakh 66 thousand tons. The government has decided to increase stocks due to rising rice prices. Of this, the food ministry will import 1 million tonnes of rice. The private sector will be given an opportunity to import another 1 million tonnes of rice.
