The Planning Commission under the leadership and direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted a timely plan. Agriculture Minister Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak said that the success was due to its implementation. The minister made the remarks while addressing a virtual 'Reception of State Minister for Planning Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam' at his official residence here on Saturday night (July 31, 2021). The minister said most of the farmers in the country are family, small, marginal and sharecroppers. That is why the government is continuously adopting and implementing agri-friendly policies to make agriculture profitable. Fertilizer prices have already been reduced four times to reduce production costs. The government has also made irrigation, seeds and other agricultural materials easily available. Besides, farmers are being given various agricultural implements including paddy cutting and threshing at 50-70 percent subsidy. Mentioning that paddy cultivation is now profitable, Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak further said that as a result of these incentives and timely initiatives of the government including tariff on rice import, farmers have been getting good price of paddy for the last few years and are benefiting by cultivating paddy. He also called upon the private industrialists to come forward to make mango, pineapple, vegetables and other crops profitable for the farmers. He said the market for these agricultural products inside and outside the country needs to be further expanded. The government as well as private entrepreneurs have to invest in agricultural processing. On the occasion about the State Minister for Planning Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam, the Agriculture Minister said, Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam has shown remarkable success in planning in the last 12 years and has gained a reputation. He became the state minister with his efficiency, honesty and professional knowledge. This achievement is a source of pride and honor for the agriculturists of the country. Highlighting the work and achievements of the last 12 years in the General Economics Department, the guest Minister of State for Planning said the scope and scope of work as the State Minister has increased. I want to glorify this responsibility. I want to work for the country, for the people of the country. He said the realistic plans adopted in the last 12 years have shown the country the way to high growth. Sajjadul Hasan, President of Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association and Chairman of Biman Bangladesh presided over the function. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Mesbahul Islam, Vice Chancellors of various agricultural universities, colleagues and classmates, Secretary General of the Association Dr. Mizanul Haque Kajal, Vice President Sarwar Mahmud and other State Ministers spoke on various aspects of Prof. Dr. Shamsul Alam's career.
