The country's first parcel train carrying chilli from Andhra Pradesh reached Benapole, Bangladesh on Monday (July 13, 2020). Indian Railways has sent a special parcel train with 16 high-capacity parcel vans loaded with about 364 tons of chilli. This information came from a press release sent from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday. It said the Special Parcel Express (SPE) covered a distance of more than 1372 km from Reddipalem in Guntur, India to Benapole, Bangladesh. The cost of transportation by rail is more affordable than road transport. India-Bangladesh bilateral trade has been affected as transport services between the two countries have been disrupted since March 2020 due to restrictions on COVID-19. For this reason, the Indian High Commission proposed to the Bangladesh Railway Authority to facilitate parcel train service between India and Bangladesh to reduce this disruption of supply chain. After the Bangladesh Railway Authority agreed, the goods were collected for the first parcel train service. This parcel train service is expected to contribute to the expansion of trade between the two countries. Source: Online/SZK
