Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh said that the government has always stood by the farmers for their welfare, and is and will continue to be in the future.

"At the time of independence, there were 70 million people and their food was provided by our farmer brothers and sisters," he said, "Now the number of people in Bangladesh is 17 to 18 million." Farmers of this country cultivate the main food grains of this increased population throughout the year. This government continues to distribute free fertilizers and seeds along with power tillers, power pumps, and paddy threshing machines to the hill farmers.
