Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh said that the government has always stood by the farmers for their welfare, and is and will continue to be in the future.
"At the time of independence, there were 70 million people and their food was provided by our farmer brothers and sisters," he said, "Now the number of people in Bangladesh is 17 to 18 million." Farmers of this country cultivate the main food grains of this increased population throughout the year. Therefore, the farmer-friendly Awami League government has always stood by the farmers for their welfare and will continue to do so in the future. Because, if the farmer lives, people's stomachs will live.
The Minister said these things at the Bandarban Hills District Council auditorium last Saturday (November 11, 2023) during the distribution of income-enhancing vegetable seeds to the farmers of Bandarban district under the technical project titled 'Strengthening Inclusive Development in Chittagong Hill Tracts'.
Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh said that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for a green agricultural revolution. 25 bigha of land, cooperative societies, and agricultural banks were decided by the government of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the betterment of the farmers. Now, the tasks set by Bangabandhu, his privileged daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, are carrying out the duties properly. This government continues to distribute free fertilizers and seeds along with power tillers, power pumps, and paddy threshing machines to the hill farmers.
The minister said that during the Awami League government, no farmer was shot dead while agitating for fertilizer.
"Not even an inch of land can be left empty, agricultural crops, and vegetables must be produced everywhere" Referring to this statement of the Prime Minister, the hill minister said that this farmer-friendly government is working for the welfare of farmers.
At the end of the event, Minister Bir Bahadur distributed free seeds of 12 types of vegetables among 2 thousand 400 families.
Chairman of Bandarban Hill Zilla Parishad Mr Kyshaihla presided over the event and members of Bandarban Hill Zilla Parishad Satyaha Panji Tripura, Kaysapru, Mozammel Haque Bahadur, Chief Executive Muhammad Masum Billah, Executive Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Junaid Zahedi and Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Umm Habiba Meera and others were present.
