The Department of Agriculture Marketing has fixed the price of potato by increasing it by Tk 5 per kg. The price of potato was fixed at Tk 35 per kg in the retail market at an exchange meeting held between various government agencies and traders at the department on Tuesday (20 October, 2020). The new prices have been fixed with the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture, said the Department of Agriculture Marketing.
According to the new price, potatoes will be sold at Tk 28 per kg in cold storage. Traders will sell potatoes at wholesale at Tk 30. Earlier, on October 8, the price of potato was fixed at Tk 23 at the cold storage, Tk 25 at wholesale and Tk 30 at retail. Although this price has not been effective anywhere.
The government took the initiative to fix the price of potatoes due to the massive increase in prices in the market. Last week, potatoes were sold at Tk 50 to 55 per kg in the Dhaka market.
Which is the highest in remembrance. After fixing the price on October 8, potatoes were sold at Tk 50 per kg, down by Tk 5 in the Dhaka market. Campaigns were carried out across the country to control prices. After that, the sale of potatoes was stopped in Dhaka's Karwan Bazaar for the last two days. Traders said potatoes were not sold from the cold storage.
The Agriculture Marketing Department sent a notification after the meeting on pricing this afternoon. It said that the district administration along with the district officials of the Department of Agricultural Marketing along with other government agencies have continued monitoring activities to control the potato market, which is highly commendable. The district administration was requested to implement the new price of potato.
