In an effort to maintain food production targets, the Ministry of Agriculture has set up 12 committees to rehabilitate and oversee rehabilitation programs to compensate flood-affected farmers.
“A total of 12 committees have been formed to coordinate the fertilizer and seed distribution program taken to compensate vegetable and aman farmers of 28 districts for crop loss owing to flood,” said an official release on last week.
The committees have been formed with the additional secretaries and other senior officials of different subordinate bodies of the ministry each.
A total of 60 officials, five in each committee, have been assigned to coordinate the rehabilitation program in flood affected districts, the release elaborates.
The committees have been formed at the instruction of agriculture minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque. Agriculture secretary M Nasiruzzaman will supervise the overall rehabilitation program while additional secretary M Hasanuzzaman will coordinate the program.
The committee members will supervise and monitor the program through regular online meeting and arrangement of field visit with the agriculture officials in the flood affected areas.
The committees will closely monitor the preparation of community seedbeds on high lands, timely supply of seeds or seedlings and late delivery of various seeds among farmers in flood-affected areas, the notification said.
