Sanliurfa’s First Semolina Factory
Turkiye’s leading food process technology provider, Alapala, has completed the installation of the first semolina factory in Şanlıurfa with a capacity of 150 TPD. Developed as part of an investment by Yiğit Group, the project also includes a 500 tons per day flour mill, creating a comprehensive production complex that brings Şanlıurfa’s millennia-old wheat heritage back to life through modern technology and advanced engineering.
A Modern Milestone in the Land Where Wheat Was Born
Twelve thousand years ago, wheat was first cultivated, milled, and baked into bread in the lands of Şanlıurfa. Today, the city has gained its first modern semolina production facility.
Home to 338 cultural wheat varieties, Şanlıurfa’s fertile lands now host a symbolic project that bridges the region’s agricultural history with modern industry made possible by Yiğit Group’s visionary investment and Alapala’s engineering expertise.
This investment marks the first industrial step in transforming the region’s agricultural production into high-value-added pasta, flour, semolina, and noodle products.
A State-of-the-Art Production Complex
The plant, delivered on a turnkey basis by Alapala International,
- features a 150 tons/day semolina production capacity, a 500 tons/day flour-milling line, and fully automated PLC & SCADA-controlled production systems.
The facility is designed to process local wheat varieties such as Zivago, Dariel, Burgaz, and Ovidio, enabling the production of high-protein, natural, and sustainable products.
With European-level standards in hygiene, energy efficiency, and product quality, the factory introduces a new vision for Şanlıurfa’s industrial landscape.
Regional Development Through the Alapala - Yiğit Group Partnership
Mr. Ömer Yiğit, Chairman of Yiğit Group, emphasized the economic and cultural importance of the project: “We are proud to have established the first flour and semolina factory in Şanlıurfa — the birthplace of 338 wheat varieties.
This project, carried out in cooperation with Alapala, will transform the efforts of our farmers into high-value-added products, making a significant contribution to both the regional economy and Turkiye’s exports.”
Mr. Görkem Alapala, CEO of Alapala Holding A.Ş., added:
“This project is a historic milestone that unites Şanlıurfa’s agricultural heritage with modern industry.
As Alapala, we are proud to have built the region’s semolina and flour production facilities and to carry the abundance of Anatolia from its ancient lands to dining tables around the world.”
Export-Oriented and Sustainable Production
Starting from June 2024, Yiğit Group will begin the production of pasta, flour, semolina, and noodles with 14 % protein content under its Perilla, Ovella, and Makaliya brands.
A large portion of these products will be exported to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, contributing approximately USD 65 million annually to the Turkish economy.
