Renowned agricultural entrepreneur Abdul Awal Mintoo has been awarded the ‘Top Agri-Food Pioneer (TAP-2025)’ award for his innovative role in the agriculture and food technology sector of Bangladesh.

The award was presented at the ‘Borlaug Dialogue’ conference held in Des Moines, Iowa, USA, on Wednesday (Oct 22, 2025). The conference was jointly organized by the US-based World Food Prize Foundation (WFPF) and the US Department of State.

The press release said that the World Food Prize Foundation annually gives the Top Agri-Food Pioneer Award in recognition of innovative leadership in the world’s agriculture and food system. Abdul Awal Mintoo was also nominated among 39 top agri-food innovators and entrepreneurs from different countries of the world on the 39th anniversary of the foundation last June. The organizers of the award ceremony said that he has made special contributions in three areas: improving the quality of the agri-food sector in Bangladesh, expanding technology-based agriculture, and creating markets for local agricultural products.

The World Food Prize Foundation Top Agri-Food Pioneers list includes individuals who are bringing transformational changes to the global food system through innovation, sustainability, and improving farmers' livelihoods.

Abdul Awal Mintu is the founder of Lal Tir Seed Limited and Lal Tir Livestock Development (BD) Limited. This company, which has played a significant role in meeting the country's huge seed demand, is now known as one of the leading seed suppliers in Bangladesh. Established in 1995, Lal Tir Seed Limited currently supplies about 30 percent of the country's total seed demand. Lal Tir Seed and Lal Tir Livestock are part of the Multimode Group.

In 2011, Abdul Awal Mintu established Lal Tir Livestock Development Limited. Its goal is to increase meat and milk production. The institute is conducting a sustainable artificial insemination program by producing quality semen from genetically improved bulls. Its regular communication, training, and knowledge exchange activities with farmers have significantly increased livestock productivity at the field level.

Abdul Awal Mintu, a master's degree holder in law and agricultural economics from the University of London, has made his relentless efforts to improve food and nutrition security an exemplary figure in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh.

Reacting to receiving the award, Abdul Awal Mintu said, "This achievement is the fruit of the combined efforts of Bangladeshi farmers, researchers, and young entrepreneurs. We want Bangladeshi agriculture to be innovation-driven, sustainable, and competitive in the global market."
