The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has awarded a group of farmers for their significant contribution to increasing oilseed crop production in the district in the 2024-25 fiscal year. The awards were presented at a programme organised at the District Agriculture Office premises this noon.
Deputy Director of the DAE, Dr. Md. Saikhul Arifin, handed over the awards to the farmers as the chief guest. District Training Officer Agriculturist, Md. Shah Alam Mia, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Sohael Ahmed, Additional Agriculture Officer AKM Faridul Haque, and agricultural officers from five upazilas of the district, along with 150 farmers, were present, among others.
Awards and gifts were given to farmers who achieved special success in mustard, sunflower, peanut, and sesame cultivation in the district.
The speakers said it is important to increase the production of oil crops to ensure food security in the country and reduce dependence on edible oil imports. Various assistance, including training, supply of quality seeds and fertilizers, will continue in the future to motivate farmers in modern farming methods. As part of the government's agricultural development strategy, emphasis is being placed on increasing the production of oil crops across the country.
