End of procrastination in importing goods from India

The complexity of importing goods by road, truck, air and sea is no more. Import of goods in trucks from different provinces of India was a matter of time. The cost of importers was much higher when it came to bringing emergency goods by air or sea. But now traders believe that importing goods directly from India by container will save both cost and time. The train from Kolkata to Benapole takes only three and a half hours. Bangladesh's logistics company MGH has entered into an agreement with Indian Railways to send imported goods to Bangladesh. According to the agreement, Indian exporters will contact MGH Logistics to book their products. After lengthy discussions, the railway authorities of both the countries, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of External Affairs prepared the ground for the import and export of goods through Benapole. To this end, the MGH Group submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Bangladesh in 2016. In the proposal, they said that as it would take less time to import goods by rail than by road or sea, the cost would be halved. This proposal was discussed at length. Finally, last Sunday (July 26, 2020) it saw the light of day. Concerned parties say that Bangladesh imported a total of 10 billion US dollars worth of goods from India last year (2019). In contrast, it exports only 1 billion dollars worth of goods. Most of the goods that Bangladesh imports come through Benapole land port. But the pressure on the port has increased due to the import of additional goods. It has also been observed that each truck waits for 10 to 12 days in this port. This makes it difficult for exporters to capture the lead time. Again, many have to count the compensation. Now this problem will be removed as a result of transporting goods through railways.
