15 goats have been sent as a gift to the Sultan of Brunei “Haji Hassanal Balkiah Muizzaddin Waddaullah”. Not only goats, Bangladesh also gifted the Sultan a pair of Chitral deer, a pair of peacocks and a pair of myna. These were sent to Brunei.
The 15 goats were gifted for breeding due to Brunei's interest in Bangladeshi goat meat. Calling the gift of goats to the Sultan of Brunei as part of 'agricultural diplomacy', some diplomats told this reporter that the gift did not come out of the blue. Recently, the Sultan of Brunei praised the taste of Khasi meat from Bangladesh. After that the communication between the two parties started. After completing all the preparations for this trip, it was sent to Brunei as a gift.
Last Sunday (October 16, 2022), Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told reporters, "He (Brunei Sultan) likes goats very much." We will give some (goats) when he leaves.'
On the first day of his visit to Bangladesh last Saturday, President Md. Abdul Hamid hosted a dinner in honor of the Sultan of Brunei at Bangabhaban. Diplomatic sources say that during the dinner, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and some others talked about the hospitality of the Sultan and his entourage with old Dhaka kacchi biryani. At one stage of the discussion, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid offered to serve specially cooked katchi for the Sultan of Brunei and his entourage.
The next day, last Sunday at noon, the Sultan of Brunei and his entourage had lunch with Katchi Biryani cooked in Keraniganj. The state guests' lunch that afternoon included roast chicken, confectioners' sweets and curd.
Recently, the high-ranking people of Brunei have been raving about the delicacy after eating Bangladeshi kacchi biryani. They even talked about which type of kacchi tastes better between Kalijira and Basmati rice. Apart from this, they also discussed about whether there is potato in kacchi biryani or not. During a recent visit to Dhaka, Brunei's Foreign Minister “Eriwan Pehin Yusuf” was looking to see if there was potato in the Katchi Biryani.
