The field was not attacked by diseases, pests and insects. This short-lived paddy yielded 33 maunds in the local bigha (52 percent). Farmers raised more paddy at less cost. Farmers have expressed great interest in this profitable rice cultivation in the future. Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) is showing such a path to prosperity in the developed BRRI hybrid rice 6. To increase food production and ensure food security in the country during the Amon season, the Department of Agricultural Extension wants to spread this variety of rice among the farmers.

Md. Laib Sikder, a farmer of Suktail Union of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, said that every year I used to cultivate local varieties of paddy during the Aman season. 15 maunds of paddy were produced per bigha (55 percent) of land. But this year we got 33 maunds of paddy per bigha by cultivating 6 varieties of BRRI hybrid paddy. I have seen profit this year by bringing home more paddy.

Litu Sheikh, a farmer of the same village, said that he got 4 kg of BRRI hybrid paddy6 and necessary fertilizers free of charge from the Gopalganj regional office of the Rice Research Institute. I planted this rice on 52 percent of my land on the advice of the Rice Research Institute. I cut paddy within 115 days of planting. The field was not attacked by insects and spiders. Therefore, the cost of fertilizers and pesticides has been saved. Irrigation cost is not much. By producing more rice at a lower cost, I have made more profit than other rice.

Senior farmer Chabed Ali said, I have never seen so much paddy produced in the field during the Aman season in my life. I am mad to see the rice in the field. So in the future I want to cultivate this profitable rice. I am expecting the cooperation of Rice Research Institute in this regard.

Head and Senior Scientific Officer of Gopalganj Regional Office of Rice Research Institute. Mohammad Zahidul Islam said, the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRI) developed BRRI hybrid rice 6 is a modern, disease tolerant, short life span, high yielding and tender rice variety. It is capable of yielding 6 to 6.5 tons per hectare if well cared for. In Gopalganj, this rice yielded 33 maunds per bigha (52 percent). According to that, 6.2 tons of rice per hectare has been produced in this district. If the cultivation of rice can be expanded, the production of food in the country will increase. So we are working to ensure the availability of seeds to farmers.

Srijan Chandra Das, Scientific Officer of Gopalganj Regional Office of Rice Research Institute said, We are working on introducing, expanding and increasing food production of rice varieties developed by Bri in Gopalganj, Narail and Bagerhat districts. During the Aman season, we have distributed 1400 kg of paddy seeds free of cost to the farmers in 3 districts. They cultivated 700 bighas of land with this rice. Farmers have expressed their satisfaction by getting bumper yields in paddy cultivation.

A. Quader Sardar, Deputy Director of Gopalganj Farm Bari of the Directorate of Agricultural Extension, said that this rice has given the best yield among the hybrid rice of the Amon season in the farmer's field. I will work sincerely to spread this immortal variety if Brie seeds are given. This will increase food production and food security in the country. After harvesting this paddy, the farmer can harvest rabi. Bri hybrid rice6 will play a major role in making agriculture profitable.
