Turkey ranks 29th among the countries investing in
Bangladesh. Turkish entrepreneurs have already invested 3 crore and 5 lakh
dollars in Bangladesh. Last fiscal year, the trade volume between the two
countries was 130 crore dollars. Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Turkey
has considerable potential to increase to 2 billion or 200 crore dollars. This
information came out in the seminar titled 'Trade and Investment Prospects
between Turkey and Bangladesh' organized by the Foreign Economic Relations
Board of Turkey (DEiK) with the delegation of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (DCCI) visiting Turkey.
According to Dhaka Chamber sources, this seminar was held on
September 29 at a local hotel in Istanbul. Mr. Anur Ozden, chairman of DEiK,
said that the developing economy of Bangladesh has made the country one of the
most promising countries in South Asia, and Turkish entrepreneurs are very interested
in expanding their trade and investment in Bangladesh. He called for more
communication between representatives of the private sector to expand bilateral
trade.
Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Mostafa Osman Turan, who participated virtually in the event, said that Bangladesh has great potential for business and investment. In recent times, Bangladesh has made great progress, especially in IT, medicine, leather, agriculture, etc. and the domestic market of Bangladesh is also very large. Taking that into consideration, Turkish entrepreneurs can come forward to invest here.
The ambassador mentioned that the trade volume between the
two countries was 130 crore US dollars in the last financial year and the
volume of trade and investment will increase further in the coming days. He
also said that several companies in Turkey have already invested in Bangladesh, and more companies are showing interest in investing there. He emphasized the
development of infrastructure, simplification of the business registration process, and policy reform to further increase Turkish investment in Bangladesh.
Mr. Masood Mannan, Ambassador of Bangladesh appointed to
Turkey, said that there is considerable potential in increasing the bilateral
trade between Bangladesh and Turkey to 2 billion US dollars, but in this case,
the private sector entrepreneurs of the two countries should increase their
communication. President of Dhaka Chamber Mr. Rizwan Rahman said in his speech
that Turkey's skills and experience in the tourism sector are very high and
Turkish entrepreneurs can come forward to invest in the development of
Bangladesh's tourism sector infrastructure. He proposed the formation of a
'Joint Economic Commission' comprising representatives of the private sector to
expand bilateral trade and investment. He called on Turkey to come forward for
the modernization of Bangladesh's industrial sector by providing technical
assistance to Turkey, capacity building of the SME sector, joint research
programs, and development of the agro value chain.
