Bangabandhu Industrial City at Mirsarai in Chittagong is the largest economic zone in the country. The regulatory body for these economic zones is the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) under the Prime Minister's Office. Mr. Sheikh Yusuf Harun, a former senior secretary in the public administration ministry, has recently joined the agency as the new executive chairman. The eighth batch officer of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) spoke about the future plans of Bangabandhu Industrial City at Mirsarai in Chittagong. Bangabandhu Industrial City is by far the largest economic zone in the country. We now have 21,000 acres of land there. The amount of land will increase further in the coming days. Progress in setting up factories in this industrial city is quite good. The construction work of factories of 13 industries is almost completed. Of these, four to five industries, including Asian Paints, McDonald's and Nippon, are in a position to go into production this year. However, coronavirus has slowed down the work of entrepreneurs. We are constructing roads for investors in Bangabandhu Industrial City. Gas, water and electricity are being provided for them. All in all, many of the facilities that the government has promised to the private sector have been fulfilled. However, there is still some work to be done. We will finish them quickly. We have undertaken a major project with World Bank funding. I will do the rest for the investors through that project. But just as the government is fulfilling its promises, so are the traders.
