The deadline for opening LC has been extended till January 31 by the companies allotted for private rice imports.
Last Saturday (January 23, 2012), the senior information officer of the food ministry confirmed the matter.
He said, "Previously, there was an obligation to open a letter of credit (LC) within a week to allow the import of rice at the private level." As a result of increasing it, the allotted institution is now getting time till January 31. '
Recently, the government has approved the import of 91,000 tons of new rice at the private level to control the rice market. 63 companies get this approval.
With this, approval was given to import 10 lakh 14 thousand 500 tons of rice in the private sector. Private import of rice will continue till the market comes under control.
