Every year, the government organization Trading Corporation
of Bangladesh (TCB) has to pay a subsidy of Tk 5 thousand 200 crores while
selling products to low-income people at affordable prices. The government
subsidizes the sale of several daily commodities once a month.
Last Sunday (September 11, 2022), Senior Secretary of the
Ministry of Commerce Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh said this while inaugurating TCB's
September sales program at Dakshin Begunbari in the capital. TCB informed this
information in a press release.
Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh said in the speech of the chief guest
on the occasion that products are being given through TCB every month. It will
continue. About five crore people are benefiting from this program conducted
through one crore family cards.
At this time, Mr. Tapan Kanti Ghosh, in response to the question of journalists whether there is an opportunity to give products multiple times a month, said that now about Tk 5 thousand 200 crores of subsidy has to be paid for giving products once a month. However, considering all aspects and taking into account the capacity of TCB, the ministry will look into whether the product can be given twice a month in the future or not.
According to related sources, TCB is running this program
through about 300 distributors in Dhaka in September. TCB will conduct
month-long sales activities through 3,500 distributors across the country.
Currently, every family card holder can buy 2 liters of oil,
2 kg of lentils and 1 kg of sugar in a package of Tk 405. The imported onions
will be sold later in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. A buyer can buy
two kg of onions for Tk 20/kg.
Mr. AKM Ali Ahad Khan, Additional Secretary, Department of
Import and Domestic Trade (IIT) was the special guest on the occasion. TCB
Chairman Brigadier General Mr. Md. Ariful Hasan, Ward No. 24 Commissioner of
