Aman paddy harvesting is going on in full swing in the district as farmers started Aman harvesting on their respective land with much enthusiasm.

The farmers are happy with the production and fair price of Aman paddy as the whole paddy field now turned into golden colors with ripened grains.

This year, the weather and climate condition was favorable for Aman cultivation, farmers said.

The sufficient rainfall, no pest attack, and availability of fertilizers appeared to be beneficial for Aman farmers, they said.

Farmer Malek of Sobuzpara village in Debiganj upazila said he cultivated Aman on five bigha of land.

Malek got bumper production as he yielded 75 maunds of paddy on his land.

Per maund, paddy is being sold at Taka 1200 in the local markets.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Panchagarh office sources said about 99,695 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation this year with a production target of 3,26,644 tonnes.

DAE Deputy Director Md Riaz Uddin said the department had provided quality Aman seed, fertilizers and other agri-inputs among the farmers free of cost.

The department also gave modern technology training to the farmers to boost production.

The government will purchase paddy from the farmers directly as it fixed paddy price at Taka 30 and rice price at Taka 44 per kg, the food office sources said.
