GFMM desk: In the face of the movement of clearing and forwarding agents in Bangladesh, trade activities between India and Bangladesh on the Petrapole-Benapole border were stopped again. As a result, 2,300 trucks carrying goods from the two countries are stuck on both sides of the Petrapole-Benapole border. These trucks contain perishable goods as well as essential goods.
According to the clearing and forwarding agents of Bangladesh, despite regular import of goods from India, goods were not being exported from Bangladesh through this border. As a result, 700 trucks carrying goods of Bangladesh got stuck at the Benapole border. They demanded immediate export of goods from Bangladesh. As a result of this movement, 1,600 trucks have been stuck at the border since Wednesday (July 01, 2020), when goods imported from India were not allowed to enter. This includes perishable products as well as daily necessities.
According to the traders involved in the import and export of Petrapole, the border trade has been virtually closed since yesterday as Indian goods trucks were not allowed to enter the Benapole Petrapole border crossing.
Earlier, trade between the two countries on the Petrapole-Benapole land border had been suspended since March due to a lockdown. Later, at the request of the importers and exporters of the two countries, the border trade activities started from June 7.
