About 100 percent of the paddy in Haor and almost 100 per cent of the boro paddy in the whole country has been harvested, said the Agriculture Minister. Dr. Mohammad Abdur Razzaque. He said the haor paddy has been successfully harvested as a result of various initiatives of the Ministry of Agriculture. It is expected that 100 per cent boro paddy will be successfully harvested across the country by next June.
Dr. Razzak said the Prime Minister has called for growing crops on every inch of land. Programs have already been formulated for that purpose. Implementation of these will start soon.
The agriculture minister said the amount of boro cultivation in Haor alone this year is 4,45,399 hectares. Of this, 4 lakh 39 thousand hectares of paddy has been harvested till yesterday (May 10, 2020), which is 99 percent of the total cultivation in the haor. The area under cultivation in the whole country is 47 lakh 54 thousand 447 hectares. Of this, 18 lakh 18 thousand hectares of crops have been harvested, which is 39 percent of the total cultivation.
The agriculture minister said there are 14 agricultural zones in the country. Dhaka, Mymensingh, Comilla, Sylhet, Chittagong, Rangamati, Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal and Faridpur. In all areas about 55 lakh 70 thousand 361 agricultural laborers are engaged in cutting paddy.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and the management of the Department of Agricultural Extension and with the help of various government and non-government organizations, work is underway to send agricultural workers to other areas where there is a need for successful and safe harvesting of sack paddy in other areas like Haor. Besides, 1,497 combined harvesters and 2,455 reapers are being used for harvesting paddy across the country.
