Preparations are underway to set up a world class and
attractive packing house and accredited lab on two acres of land in Purbachal
of Dhaka. Agriculture Minister and Awami League presidium member said. Md.
Abdur Razzak.
The minister was speaking at a presentation of a consultant
for setting up a packing house and lab at the conference room of the
agriculture ministry at the secretariat on Wednesday (February 2, 2022).
He said the present government is determined to increase the
export of agricultural products. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has allotted two
acres of land in Purbachal to the Ministry of Agriculture for processing and
export of agricultural products. There will be world class and eye-catching
packing houses and accredited labs. We are working towards that. If it is
established, it will play a huge role in the agricultural development of the
country and the export of agricultural products will increase manifold.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are working together to set up
world-class and eye-catching packing houses and accredited labs in Purbachal.
Experienced consultant appointed by FAO B. Glod from France presented his
presentation on the subject virtually. In the presentation, Consultant B. Glod presented
his proposals on various issues including physical infrastructure, equipment,
manpower, training, potential cost required for setting up an international
standard packing house and accredited lab.
Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Sayedul Islam,
Additional Secretary. Md. Abdur Rauf, Kamala Ranjan Das, Hasanuzzaman Kallol,
Md. Ruhul Amin Talukder, Balai Krishna Hazra, other senior officials, head of
the organization and FAO Bangladesh representative Robert D. Simpson was
present.
