VIETSTOCK EXPO & FORUM 2024

VIETSTOCK EXPO & FORUM 2024

Vietnam’s Premier International Feed, Livestock, Aquaculture & Meat Industry Show

Agriculture holds an important position as a pillar of Vietnam's economy, plays a crucial role in maintaining the nation's food security, and contributes to the stabilisation of Vietnam's macroeconomy. Vietnam's agricultural sector achieved impressive growth in 2023, with an increase of 3.83%, the highest since 2019. Additionally, with the trend of market liberalisation and the removal of trade barriers, Vietnamese agriculture continues to assert its position on the international stage, making significant contributions to GDP growth and balancing the trade balance.

Accounting for more than a quarter of the agricultural sector, livestock farming in Vietnam has made remarkable strides in the context of technological development and international integration. In 2023, the livestock industry achieved impressive results. The total production in the livestock sector increased by 6.38% compared to 2022. Vietnam ranked 6th in the world in pork production, supplying approximately 4.5 million tons of live-weight pork. Poultry farming contributed 2.3 million tons of live-weight meat and 19.2 billion eggs.

Not only does it meet domestic demand, but Vietnam's livestock products are also exported, with a total export value reaching 515 million USD in 2023, an increase of 26.2% compared to 2022.

Despite these positive aspects, Vietnam's livestock industry still faces some limitations, such as small-scale production, a lack of linkages leading to low added value, and a high dependency on imported feed materials.

For sustainable development of the livestock sector, there needs to be strong effort and close cooperation between the government, associations, organisations, businesses, and farmers. It is necessary to establish supportive policies and create favourable conditions for farmers to modernise their farming practices. Businesses should invest in research and development, build closed supply chains, and ensure environmental standards. Farmers need to enhance their knowledge, apply scientific and technological advancements in production, and comply with food safety regulations.

Vietnam's livestock industry is experiencing strong growth and has great potential for the future. To continue to maintain and enhance its international standing, the sector requires cooperation from all stakeholders. Industrialising livestock farming towards organic and environmentally friendly practices will be the trend to build a modern, sustainable agriculture that meets the increasing demands of both domestic and international markets.
