In recent years, Türkiye has become one of the leading players in the global food market. Over the past five years, Türkiye’s agricultural exports have grown by an average of 12% annually, reaching $31.4 billion in 2024.
At the same time, Türkiye is also a major food importer. The country’s average annual imports of agricultural products over the past five years amounted to $22.7 billion.
What is less known is that Ukraine has played a significant role in this growth.
By the end of 2024, Ukraine ranked among the Top 3 suppliers of agricultural products to Türkiye, accounting for 8.4% of the country’s total agri-imports, with exports worth $1.97 billion.
Key Ukrainian products in steady demand in Türkiye include:
♦️ Soybeans
♦️ Sunflower oil
♦️ Pulses (their exports doubled in 2024, reaching $45.8 million)
♦️ Corn
♦️ Wheat
Why Türkiye?
Türkiye not only imports but also transforms agricultural raw materials into high-quality products — and exports them worldwide. In fact, 20% of the global wheat flour market is of Turkish origin.
In addition, Türkiye plays a crucial role in global logistics:
♦️ Over 500 million tons of cargo pass through its ports annually
♦️ The Port of Mersin is among the largest in the region
♦️ Kazakhstan is considering it as a key hub for the Trans-Caspian route
The outlook for the global grain, pulse, and oilseed markets — along with the latest trends in global logistics — will be in focus at AgroFood Summit 2025, taking place November 5–7 in Mersin.
