Agriculture Minister Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak is going to Dubai to take part in the first ministerial meeting of the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate.
The meeting will be held at the World Expo in Dubai on February 20-21 at the invitation of the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Besides, the minister is scheduled to return to the country on February 23 after concluding the meeting. This information has been given in a press release sent from the Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday.
The Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate is a joint venture between the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
It was officially launched at the 26th United Nations Climate Conference (COP-26) in Glasgow, Scotland last year. The five-year initiative in the period 2021-2025 aims to increase investment, research and expansion of cooperation in climate smart agricultural technology and food system innovation to address the adverse effects of climate change. Initially, an additional USD 4 billion has been invested in this sector. At present, governments of 36 countries including Bangladesh and 75 non-governmental organizations are partners of Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate.
The meeting will be attended by UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Mariam Almeiri, US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Wilsack, as well as agriculture ministers from about 30 countries and other private representatives.
In the meeting, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak will highlight the impact of climate change on agriculture in Bangladesh and the initiatives and challenges facing the government.
Other members of the Bangladesh delegation are Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Md. Sayedul Islam, Additional Secretary Md. Ruhul Amin Talukder and Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Bakhtiyar.
After the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate Meeting, the Agriculture Minister will participate in a seminar organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Food and Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock during the Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods Week at Dubai World Expo. He will also exchange views with Bangladeshi and expatriate businessmen.
