The Department of Agriculture advised the farmers to cultivate BRRI Paddy-89 as a sample crop in Tarash of Sirajganj. The farmers have got a yield of 36 mounds to 39 mounds per bigha.
Abdul Mannan, a farmer from Ulipur village in the municipal area, said he has cultivated BRRI paddy-89 on one bigha of land and got 39 mounds of paddy. Mofiz Uddin, another farmer from Bri-Pachan village, said he cultivated the paddy on 17 bighas of land. The yield has been 36 mounds per bigha.
According to the Agriculture Department, there are several benefits of cultivating BRRI Paddy-89. Disease pests are less in this paddy. Insect attacks are also less. It ripens seven to ten days earlier than other varieties. The yield is also much higher. The price and type is the same as BRRI Dhan-29.
In this regard, Agriculture Officer Lutfunnahar Luna said that success has been achieved by cultivating BRRI Paddy-89 in 60 hectares of land in the current boro season as a sample crop. It is expected that farmers will cultivate this paddy in most of the fields in future.
