Government is thinking of importing rice

Therefore, import duty will be reduced if necessary. The Ministry of Food said in a press release on Tuesday (July 7, 2020). Sources said that the Millers are not abiding by the agreement reached between the Millers and the Food Department to procure boroughs from the domestic market. They demanded an increase in the collection price of rice. But the government will not increase the procurement price of rice in any way. Because, there is no rationale to increase the collection price. According to the Ministry of Food, there has been a bumper harvest of boro paddy this year. There is enough rice in the country. Even after this, if a class of traders destabilizes the rice market and the millers delay in delivering rice to the government warehouses, then the import duty will be reduced and rice will be imported from abroad. In the capital market yesterday, fine rice Nazirshail / Miniket was sold at Tk. 52 to 65 per kg, medium quality rice pajamas / Lata at Tk. 45 to 52 per kg and coarse rice Eri / Sorna at Tk. 40 to 45 per kg.
