A virtual conference of APEDA, Bangladesh Fresh Fruit Importers Association and India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry was held The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Bangladesh Fresh Fruit Importers Association and the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry jointly organized the Virtual Conference and India-Bangladesh Trade Fair on Wednesday (July 7, 2021). The meeting brought together the concerned trade bodies and key partners of the two countries for a separate platform to strengthen strategic cooperation between India and Bangladesh in the agro-food sector. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr. Vikram Doraiswamy highlighted the need for duty-free quota-free market access for Bangladeshi products under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) since 2011. He also highlighted the importance of connectivity between the two countries' trade organizations. President of Bangladesh Land Ports Authority Mr. Mohammad Alamgir said the development of Benapole, Sutarkandi, Bilonia and Ramgarh land ports is in progress at a cost of Tk 1.5 crore. The land port authorities of both the countries are committed to the smooth operation of the business community, the convenience of the passengers and the timely release of goods. Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmed, president of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), said the World Bank report said uninterrupted transport links between India and Bangladesh have the potential to significantly increase the national income of both parties. APEDA President Dr. M. Angamuthu, Bangladesh Fresh Fruit Importers Association President Mr. Salimul Haque Isa, Bangladesh Halal Meat Importers Association President Mr. Shamim Ahmed, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mr. Abdul Matlub Ahmed, Indian High Commission Trade Representative Dr. Promesh Basal, Director of APEDA Dr. Tarun Bajaj and senior officials of the Indian High Commission participated. An e-catalog for the virtual buyer-seller meeting was Published at the conference. This is followed by an exchange of views between exporters and importers.
