Rajshahi University has started production and marketing of
various products made from fish. This information was given at a seminar
organized on Sunday (June 12, 2022) at the Faculty of Agriculture of the
University.
These products have been produced by the Fisheries
Department of Rajshahi University after three years of research. The main
leader of the research was Prof. Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam. Also present were Prof.
Dr. Md. Yamin Hossain and Dr. Syeda Nusrat Jahan.
Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Golam Sabbir
Sattar was present as the chief guest in the seminar. He said the completion of
the research was the biggest find of a researcher. What we mean by university
is that there will be global research, there will always be new discoveries.
That's what the Department of Fisheries did. Research on human welfare deserves
praise.
He encouraged the researchers to market their products and
assured them of maximum cooperation. He also spoke of maximum cooperation for
the establishment of a state-of-the-art lab in the Department of Fisheries.
At the seminar, Chief Researcher Tariqul Islam said,
"We are working on a total of three objectives in this project, which are
- to make a variety of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat foods from freshwater and
marine fish." To determine the quality and durability of these foods by
packaging the modified atmosphere and storing them at different temperatures. To
determine the acceptability of these to the consumers by selling the packaged
fish products in short range.
He added that one of the main themes of this study is map
packaging, where food is stored by a specific gas or a mixture of gases. This
is the first research activity in the country on map packaging. 9 products of 5
types have been developed under this program and they will be confirmed for
marketing soon.
Also, co-researcher Prof. Dr. Md. Yamin Hossain said that
many people cannot eat fish because of its sting or because of its smell.
Basically, I think our products will be very useful for them. Initially we have
been marketing the product for a short period of time on short range and we
plan to go into commercial production if we get good response.
Also present was the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof.
Dr. Chowdhury Md. Zakaria. Chairman of Fisheries Department Prof. Dr. Manjurul
Alam and Dean Prof. Ishtiaq Hossain along with teachers and students of the
department. It may be mentioned that at the end of the seminar, Vice Chancellor
Prof. Dr. Golam Sabbir Sattar inaugurated the fish products at the Souvenir
Shop located in the Transport Market of the University.
