Paddy and rice worth crores of Tk. wasted in the warehouse during the Sylhet floods

The people of Sylhet managed to cope with the two years of Corona period. But in the summer, heavy rains and floods caused by the slopes of the upstream hills have again caused people to fall into disarray. People of all walks of life in Sylhet are facing more losses than in the Corona period.

Upstream hillsides and heavy rains have inundated almost half of the city of Sylhet. People from more than 100 unions in 13 upazilas have been affected by the floods. Many have drowned in their homes. He is not to be treated as a loss figure! The catastrophic summer floods surpassed the 2004 floods.

The river Surma has not been able to contain the heavy rains since May 11 and the mountain slopes coming down from India. As a result, the water has overflowed and flooded all the villages and towns. From farmers to traders, people of all classes have suffered.

At least one million people have been affected by the floods. Farmers have also disappeared as their houses were submerged in water. Boro Falls, recently taken home, has also been damaged by floodwaters. In the incessant rains, seedlings have sprouted in the paddy kept in the house. Since Saturday (May 21), the river water has stabilized and the water level in the city has dropped. When people around are in food crisis, the post-flood damage is gradually emerging.

A hostile image was seen in the rice and rice mills and warehouses of Kazirbazar in the city. Rows and rows of paddy-rice sacks kept in the warehouse have been soaked and destroyed in the flood waters. Seeing that, water is trickling in the eyes of the traders. After the damage was done, the people's representatives or the administration did not look for it and many people started crying.

As seen, the flood waters began to recede. Rotten stench of rice is coming out as soon as the shutter of the warehouse is opened. Thousands of sacks of stored 50 kg rice and piles of rice sacks weighing 2 mounds have rotted wet. Someone is removing water from the warehouse with irrigation by installing salo machine. Flood water has entered every warehouse. The storekeepers did not have time to remove the sacks of paddy and rice due to lack of water. The rotten stench of paddy and rice has also polluted the air in the area. Which are now unsuitable for use in cow feed. This loss of traders is not to be tolerated.
