There is no limit to their suffering in not being able to sell milk at a fair price. They pour unsold milk into the waters of the river Padma. These herdsmen graze cattle on the banks of the river Padma. They have a Bedouin-like life. Some days here, some days there is a dormitory. All those dormitories in thick polythene or triple tents. Sometimes the night is spent under an umbrella. Cows live under the open sky. There are one and a half to four hundred cows in each herd. There are five to ten shepherds with the flock. The herdsmen own almost half of the flock's cattle. They only get milk from another owner's cow in exchange for grazing. They have no share in the new born calf. Some people have only their own cows. The herdsmen's day begins with a herd of cows coming out very early in the morning. He came back between eight and nine in the morning. After breakfast with rice and milking the cows, sell the milk to the small milk traders or cowherds. Then between 12 noon and 1 o'clock in the morning after eating cooked rice to go out with a herd of cows. The return is in the evening. But this corona situation has turned everything upside down. They are in dire economic crisis. To meet this shortage, many people have to sell herds of cattle. District Animal Resources Officer Mostafizur Rahman said that although there are no accurate statistics, there are many cattle herds in Sadar, Shibganj, Bholahat and Gomstapur upazilas. The herdsmen of these flocks graze cattle in Char, Barindra and Beel areas with great difficulty. Their life is almost like a Bedouin. He makes a living by raising cows and calves at low cost. A large part of the milk in the district comes from them. At this time the production of yoghurt, sweets, lamb, mawa has stopped and the sale of their milk has almost stopped. They are in crisis. Besides, the cow keepers and farmers of the villages are also in crisis. Source: Online/SZK
