GFMM desk: The prices of various spices have come down in the capital market. According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh on Sunday (July 5, 2020), prices of dried chillies, coriander and bay leaves have declined in different markets of the capital. Ginger, garlic, turmeric and cumin prices have come down since last Friday. Besides, prices of broiler chicken and gram have come down.
The price of broiler chicken has come down by Tk. 10 per kg as compared to last week. It is sold on Sunday at 140 to 150 Tk.. Last week, the price of broiler chicken was 150 to 180 Tk. per kg.
Among the spices, the price of dried chillies has come down by Rs 20 to 40 per kg. On Sunday, dried chillies were sold at Tk. 210 to Rs 289 per kg. Last week, the price of dried chillies was Tk. 250 to 300 per kg. Imported chillies are sold at Tk. 260 to 320 per kg. Last week the price was Tk. 300 to 320. The price of bay leaves has been reduced by Tk. 10 to 20 and is being sold at Tk. 100 to 130. Last week, the price of this spice was Tk. 120 to 140. The price of money has come down by Tk. It is sold at 100 to 150.
Ginger imported from different markets of the capital has been selling at Tk 130 to 150 per kg since last Friday. Imported garlic is sold at 80 to 90 rupees. Turmeric is sold for 150 to 200 rupees. The price of cumin has come down from Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg and sold at Rs 310 to Rs 350 per kg.
Asked about this, Mohammad Shahid, a member of Shyambazar Businessmen's Association, said prices were falling due to lack of buyers. Prices are much lower in the wholesale market. So the retail market has also declined. Products like ginger-garlic cannot be kept for long if there is no buyer. So you have to give up at a lower price. Other times there is a huge demand before the sacrifice. This time there is not much demand.
