NAMA Looks Ahead To the Future During 2023 Annual Meeting

October 9, 2023 - Milling industry leaders and their guests gathered at The Greenbrier Resort during the 2023 North American Miller's Association Annual Meeting, which ended Saturday (October 7, 2023).

Planning for the future of both the association and the milling industry was a major focus of the 2023 NAMA Annual Meeting", said NAMA Chair Brian Doyle of the King Milling Company.  "With a clear vision now guiding our work together, I'm confident that NAMA is well-positioned to build on past success and have an even greater impact on the issues that matter most to millers".

The general session presentations provided a forward-looking perspective on a range of topics impacting the milling industry. Political commentator Jim Ellis shared predictions about the 2024 presidential election. American Bakers Association President and CEO Eric Dell updated the audience on the baking industry's policy priorities, highlighting opportunities for future collaboration with NAMA. Commissioner Caroline Pham discussed ways that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's work is essential to the grain trade. Buhler CEO Stefan Scheiber provided a global perspective on how innovation will continue to be critical to the future of food production and sustainability.

The NAMA Board of Directors held its annual business meeting during the conference. Terry Tyson (Grain Millers Canada) and Meredith Nelson (General Mills) were elected to serve on the NAMA Executive Committee. The Board of Directors also approved a new strategic plan to guide the association for the next three years. The plan is built on three foundational pillars: advocacy, collaboration, and engagement. NAMA's corn, oat, and wheat divisions met during the conference to begin steps to implement the plan.

"NAMA's new strategic plan will help the association effectively leverage the powerful collective voice of the milling industry in Washington, D.C.", said NAMA President Jane DeMarchi.  "We are excited to strengthen collaboration opportunities and engagement strategies to show real value to our growing membership".

During the 2023 Annual Meeting Dinner and Awards Ceremony sponsored by NAMA Associate Members, NAMA Chair Brian Doyle (King Milling Company) presented the 2023 Honorary Member Award to Robert "Skip" Myers (Morris, Manning & Martin LLP) and Steve Wickes (retired, Agricor, a Grain Millers company) in recognition of their decades of service to the industry.
