Japan continues to be one of Malaysia's main source of foreign direct investment Japan continues to be one of Malaysia's main source of foreign direct investment (FDI). I mentioned that at the Online Investment Forum organized by JETRO on 6 April. As of 2020, a total of 2,761 manufacturing projects with Japanese participation was implemented with total investments worth RM91.4 billion (USD28.1 billion). These projects have generated employment for 348,475 people. Japan ranked as the largest foreign investor in terms of implemented projects. These investments were concentrated in the following industries: Electronics & electrical products; Chemicals & chemical products; Non-metallic mineral products; Transport equipment; and Petroleum products (including Petrochemicals). For the period Jan– Dec 2020, a total of 59 manufacturing projects with Japanese participation was approved with total investments worth RM1.6 billion (USD409.5 million). These projects are expected to generate 2,508 job opportunities in Malaysia. MIDA has 2 offices in Japan ie Tokyo and Osaka, which provide facilitation services for Japanese investors.
