Various aspects of modern silos for storing agricultural crops today

In the earlier days, a variety of regional materials and methods were used to preserve agricultural crops. But all those things did not last long. Nowadays grain silos are made of hot galvanized steel, which makes it durable and weather resistant. It is specially used for storing bulk grains like wheat, corn, rice, soybean, sunflower seed, sorghum, barley, groundnut etc. Today's modern silos last for 30/50 years or more.

Double side galvanized grain storage silo are widely used in following processing plant:

1. Poultry feed mill plant

2. Port grain storage facilities

3. Beer processing plant

4. Biscuit making plant

5. Oil processing plant

6. Flour mill

7. Alcohol processing plant and etc.

Parts of grain silo:

1. Pre-cleaning system.

2. Drying system.

3. Level monitor, temperature controller, ventilation system.

4. Silo body including silo roof, silo body, silo bottom and other auxiliary.

Advantages of modern grain silo:

1.Good quality: grain silo material is double side galvanized steel, and all steel silo parts are manufactured in a factory, so the quality can be totally controlled.

2.Good air-tightness: there is no need to worry about leaking of the storage material cylinders diameter from 2.7 meters to 25 meters and the height up to 35 meters.

3.All set auxiliar: temperature controller , DCS controller, level indicator, loading and discharging system.

4.Excellent stability Lipp System.

5.long-life time: 30 years working time.

6.Silo diameter: from 3m to 25m.

Some types of silos

Flat Bottom Silo

For a flat bottom silo, a flat surface is required to provide full support. The floor design of steel silos is decided by the material of the silo. In flat bottom silos, air slides can be bolted to plinths cast into the floor or bolted directly to the silo floor. If one plans to store cement, fly ash, or other materials that require a fluidizing system, a flat bottom silo will usually be the first choice. For a custom made steel silo such as columns below the silo floor, the needs of both the material handling designer and the silo designer are met. Agreement must be reached through consultation to ensure that. Additionally, equipment floors are added to steel silo plans if steel grain silos are to receive loads from mixing, conditioning and unloading equipment. Flat bottom silos are one of the most widely used steel silos in the agricultural industry. And these storage silos are considered to be the most popular and cost-effective means for long-term storage, especially grain and feed storage. All flat bottoms in any steel silo are designed and constructed in accordance with D-4097 or ASTM D-3299 standards. If one has decided to build a flat bottom silo, the next step is to select the right top.

Hopper Bottom Silo

Hopper bottom silo, also called cone bottom silo, hopper bottom storage bin, storage tank, storage vessel, refers to a cylindrical steel silo with a conical bottom. Generally, silos require a funnel to store most materials. For small silo storage, steel hopper/cone can be fixed with sidewalls. But for large diameter industrial silos, to reduce risk, the hopper/cone is designed to support the bottom floor of the silo.

According to customers' requirements and conditions, the shape of hopper or cone is specially designed. In order to meet the demand for stored products. For some products, such as food and grains, it is necessary to eliminate hazardous and safety concerns.

The configuration of the hopper silo depends on the type of material to be stored. Typically, pellet products require a 45° cone bottom silo while powder or other materials that are difficult to flow fit a 60° cone bottom silo storage. Some design all hopper bottoms to D-4097 or ASTM D-3299 standards for improved cone heads. Hopper bottom steel silos are housed under the silo floor plate with a primed carbon steel pipe leg stand and a standard 18” silo bottom to silo floor plate clearance. That is, hopper bottom silos will be your only choice if complete drainage is absolutely necessary. For leg stand material, there are various options – FRP skirt support, T-304 or T-316 stainless steel pipe legs, fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), painted carbon steel. If one decides to design a hopper bottom silo, the next thing he needs to do is to choose the right top.

Elevated Silo

Some companies manufacture a wide range of steel silos such as grain elevator silos with capacities ranging from 100 tons to 5000 tons. Designed by an experienced engineering team, the advanced silos are acclaimed for high strength, durability and good sealing effect. Elevated silos can be applied for small grain storage and large commercial operations.

Steel Silo Applications: Suitable for feed, beans, corn, rice, wheat, cement storage and grain-processing. It can also be used as a warehouse, especially for storing grain.

Steel silo features: fast emptying; gas seal; Pesticide, no chemical residue, no risk of insect repellence. Custom made elevator silos available. Clean design, no internal stiffeners.

Easy to operate and install: Low cost and long service life (more than 30 years); Easy to maintain. Complete set including silo auxiliary system and monitoring system, conveying system, drying system, sweeping system, ventilation system, material level monitor etc.
