Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has described agriculture as the center of human survival and proposed the implementation of a five-point agenda to eradicate poverty and hunger from the world. Imran Khan addressed the inaugural session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy on Wednesday (February 17, 2021).
At the virtual event, he called for investment in sustainable agricultural development as well as ensuring fair and equitable prices for food products, application of new technologies and food adoption and rethinking of production patterns. This was reported in a report of Pakistan's Express Tribune.
"For next year's Food Systems Conference, I am proposing a new policy for sustainable food production and consumption," Imran Khan said.
In his keynote address, Imran Khan spoke about the economic woes of various countries, especially developing countries, in the Corona epidemic. It has pushed more than 100 million people into extreme poverty. He also spoke about the steps taken by the Pakistani government to combat the Corona epidemic.
According to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), one-fourth of the world's population lacks access to safe and nutritious food. Many people in every part of the world, especially the poor, cannot afford healthy food.
