The district has had a good yield of Ropa Aman paddy this
season. Ropa Aman paddy harvesting has already started in 9 Upazilas of the
district. Paddy harvesting has started completely in the Kasba, Akhaura, and
Vijaynagar Upazilas of the district. In the remaining 6 Upazilas, even if the
paddy is partially harvested, it will take another week to start completely.
The district agricultural extension office said that the
target for planting in the district this year was 51 thousand 470 hectares
(hybrid-410 hectares, Ufshi 45 thousand 910 hectares, and local 5 thousand 145
hectares). But 54 thousand 605 hectares of land have been cultivated (hybrid 408
hectares, Ufshi 49 thousand 52 hectares, and local 5 thousand 145 hectares).
Which is 3 thousand 135 hectares more than last year.
The optimism of agriculture officials the target of 1 lakh 49
thousand 349 metric tons of paddy production has been set in the district this
year. Of which hybrid 1 thousand 632 metric tons, Ufshi 1 lakh 38 thousand 189
metric tons and local 9 thousand 528 metric tons.
Farmers have seen harvesting paddy from the land in Ashtragram, Suhilpur, Behar, and Majlishpur of Sadar Upazila of Brahmanbaria district. Going to the Behar area, it can be seen that paddy is being harvested from the land with the Har Vashta machine. Meanwhile, the farmers are also happy as the yield is good.
Farmer Nazrul Ali said that compared to other years, this
year's harvest has been better. He said, this year I have planted Aman saplings
in three Kani lands (one Kani in 30 decimals). I irrigated the land only once.
This is a good yield. I am satisfied with the result. He said, this year, there
is less cheetah in paddy. He said that the price of hay is also high. I have
sold the straw of three fields of land for Tk 15 thousand.
Farmer Hasan Mia said, this year, I have planted Aman BARI
Paddy-75 seedlings in 6 Kani land. Ropa Aman BARI Paddy-75 Fragrant. Good
yield. A feature of this rice is that it takes 115 days from the seedbed to
harvesting. If you go through the aisle of the land, you can get the aroma of
the rice. After harvesting rice, I will cultivate sunflowers on this land.
Abdul Matin, a farmer of Astragram, said that the yield of paddy has been good
this year. However, the price of labor for harvesting rice is high. Abdul Malek,
a farmer from Behar village, said that there has been a good yield of saplings
this year. As the cost of labor for harvesting paddy is high, we cut the paddy
of the land with a harvester machine. They said that they have to pay Tk 3,000 if they cut rice laborers but if they cut it with the machine they have to
pay Tk 2,000.
In this regard, Sushant Saha, Deputy Director of Brahmanbaria
District Agricultural Extension Department, said that this year, the planting
of saplings in the district has exceeded the target. The yield has also been
good. Farmers have also been given incentives by the government. The
agriculture office has provided all kinds of support to the farmers. This year
the target of 1 lakh 49 thousand 349 metric tons of rice seedlings have been
set. We are working now to ensure that there is no uncultivated land in
the district in the coming season.
