Flour Milling Training Distance Learning Programme: As if history repeats itself

It feels like history repeating itself as the Flour Milling Training Distance Learning Programme kicks off again for another year!

(formerly known as NABIM, the National Association of British & Irish Millers), has run a distance learning programme for students across the world for more than one hundred years. This tried and trusted programme helps meet the training needs of the milling industry, and is coordinated locally by the Australian Technical Millers Association.

completed the Advanced Certificate in Flour Milling program back in 1981 to 1985 while he was employed at Defiance Milling Co and Fielder Gillespie Limited. His expertise in milling saw him go on to become a tutor for the program, giving support to up-and-coming millers for 29 years as they worked through these modules.

Over the years, many of our team members have completed this program, gaining essential knowledge of the flour milling industry. This includes Dirk, who was awarded the Silver Medal in 2013 for outstanding performance in the Advanced Certificate, achieving the top performance in all seven examination papers

, our Business Development Manager, is now embarking on the qualification, completing Modules 1 and 2 over the coming year. She’s grateful she has a computer to type her assignments on, unlike Kev who had to handwrite all of his. Check them out in the photo above – yes, we still have all of his original assignments in the office 40 years later. Let’s see if she can beat Kevin’s marks!
